These programmes provide intense support for people while they are living at home. Some may involve attending regular groups and 1 to 1 sessions, several times a week, that are timed to fit around their other responsibilities, while other programmes can be much more time intensive, e.g. 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.

How could it be helpful?

These programmes enable you to stay living at home and avoid disrupting your daily responsibilities. They are great for people who have a stable home environment/support system and could benefit from support that is more intensive than a standard one-hour, weekly session.

These programmes usually involve:

  • An addiction assessment
  • Individual counselling to explore your personal challenges and goals.
  • Group sessions to share experiences, support each other, and learn with others who are in a similar situation.
  • Family counselling.

Some programmes may also be able to provide medications that can help.

There are also programmes like the Phoenix Centre in South Auckland, that use a mixture of both peers and addictions practitioners.

How to access?

While some programmes require a referral from a GP or other health professional, many programmes will also allow you to refer yourself. You can use Health Point to look for a service in your area
