Staying very busy with a packed schedule can help. This helps you to keep engaging with people, building momentum, and it also helps to distract you from focusing on the changes you’re trying to make or things you’re trying to avoid.

Plan out what you will do each day over the next week. This can be as simple as waking up at 8am, eating breakfast or going for a walk.

It can also be helpful to take note of when you experienced your strongest urges to use drugs, how intense they were, and what you did to manage it. This is known as an urge log, and helps you to identify that urges are time-limited and will pass. Here’s an example of how this could work from SMART Recovery Australia.

Remember to plan time to relax, recharge, and celebrate every step forward that you've made. Try to find ways to do this that don't involve using substances.
