Join a supportive online space for people with ADHD to talk about change and recovery. You don’t need to be formally diagnosed to join.
SMART Recovery is a peer-led group for anyone who uses alcohol or other drugs, or has behaviours they want to change. There’s no expectation to cut down or stop using, and no judgment.
Why join an ADHD-specific SMART Recovery group?
It’s about being around people who get it. Having ADHD can impact your drinking or drug use, and it can be tricky to find support services that understand how these issues overlap.
SMART Recovery facilitators and participants have experience of living with ADHD and their own recovery journeys.
This weekly meeting provides a friendly space where you’re supported and understood. If you’ve been to a SMART Recovery meeting before, you might notice some differences in how we run this meeting. We’ve made it more ADHD-friendly by being flexible with entry time, allowing people to have their video off, and being supportive of fidget toys and whatever else you need to participate.
How does SMART Recovery work?
SMART Recovery is a peer-led approach to making changes. We support each other and help work through challenges.
SMART Recovery is:
Practical: We focus on the week just been and the week ahead. We use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and other therapeutic approaches to help manage cravings, thoughts and emotions. Through SMART Recovery, participants find a new lifestyle balance that works for them.
Flexible: Attend whenever you feel you need to. Some like to attend every week to keep up the momentum, while others may go for once a month or just pop in every now and then to help them stick to their goals.
Peer-led: You’ll be in a group of people who are on a similar journey, including facilitators who have their own experiences of neurodivergence and recovery.
Each session is 90 minutes long and consists of:
-
A check-in round: How was your last week?
-
‘Work time’: Discussing challenges, wins, and sharing strategies that could help
-
Check-out time: Reflections and your plan for the next seven days.
It’s a shame free space. No need to apologise if you show up slightly late or find you’re accidentally interrupting people or talking ‘too much’.

Is SMART Recovery a 12-step programme?
Nope. There’s no requirement to stop using drugs or alcohol altogether, and no requirement to believe in a higher power.
