One way to think about your wellbeing is through the Te Whare Tapa Whā model. This can help you look at your health to see where your strengths are and what might be missing at the moment.
Imagine yourself as a house or wharenui. There are four walls that hold you up and keep you well, while the whenua acts as your foundation. These four walls are:
- Te Taha Hinengaro - Mental and emotional health
- Te Taha Wairua - Spiritual health
- Te Taha Whānau - Social health
- Te Taha Tinana - Physical health
- Whenua - Land, roots
When all of our walls are healthy and strong, our entire wellbeing is healthy and strong. When one is impacted, the entire whare/house can become unstable.
Thinking of these four walls/areas of your wellbeing:
- Which are strong at the moment?
- Which need more work?
- How is your drug use affecting them?
- What can you do to strengthen them?
Other ways to reflect:
Questions to ask yourself
To help you reflect on how your life is going.
Drug, set and setting
Consider what will change your experience when using drugs.
Reflections for occasional use
Things to ask yourself before, during and after.
Reflections for regular use
Consider if you want to make any changes.
